Daily On Energy: US Leaving Efficiency Gains on the Table (December 17, 2019)

Published on December 17, 2019 by Josh Siegel and Abby Smith, Washington Examiner

The U.S. has a lot to save from improving energy efficiency, but total investments in efficiency have dropped 18% in the past few years, according to new research from the Alliance to Save Energy, the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, and the Business Council for Sustainable Energy. The report finds efficiency investments are responsible for half of the emissions cuts in the U.S. power sector since 2005.

And six efficiency policies, including fuel economy standards and appliance and equipment limits, saved the U.S. 23% of its total energy use in 2017, according to the research. Trump has set out to weaken those policies.
