BCSE Statement on Congressional Action on Clean Energy Funding and Tax Extenders in Omnibus Legislation
Washington, DC – Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) President Lisa Jacobson issued the following statement regarding congressional action this week to pass omnibus appropriations bills.
“The BCSE is pleased to see that Congress has increased funding for clean energy programs, including those at the Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency, rural energy programs and for international efforts to combat climate change.
“The increased funding for clean energy programs demonstrates that our nation’s leaders recognize that the clean energy portfolio from the energy efficiency, natural gas and renewable energy sectors is expanding the U.S. economy, delivering affordable, safe and reliable power to homes and businesses, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and creating jobs.
“We were also pleased to see that there was at least a short-term extension of clean energy tax credits included in the omnibus bill, which will provide a more even competitive environment for investment in these sectors. We would have preferred if the bill had included new credits for technologies in the areas of energy storage, electric and alternative fuel vehicles as well as renewable energy and energy efficiency. Long-term clean energy tax policy that values all clean energy technologies will bring even more economic benefits to American families and businesses. We will work with Congress in 2020 to enact clean energy tax policy that will support the deployment of the full scope of clean energy technologies in a meaningful way for power generation, building efficiency and transportation.”
