BCSE President to Testify Before Senate Committee on Progress of Clean Energy in America

“A Rapid Transformation in U.S. Electricity Sector is Well Underway”

Washington, DC – Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) President Lisa Jacobson, invited to testify before today’s Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Hearing to Examine the Electricity Sector in a Changing Climate at 10:00 am ET, issued the following statement.

My testimony today before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will showcase the market trends and business facts behind the rapid transformation that is well underway in the U.S. electricity sector. Leading this transformation is a broad and diversified portfolio of solutions from the energy efficiency, natural gas and renewable energy sectors, that are gaining market penetration due to competitive economics, policy innovation and emerging action by corporations.

“This transition is producing positive outcomes in our economy, including over 3 million American jobs and the delivery of affordable, safe and reliable power to our homes and businesses.

“Federal government leadership and policy has played a valuable role in the advancement of clean energy over the past decade plus in the United States.  This is especially noteworthy in the areas of research, development and deployment programs (RD&D) at the Department of Energy.  A range of clean energy and energy efficiency technologies have benefitted from the full spectrum of federal RD&D support, in many cases in partnership with the private sector.  This includes early stage, like ARPA-E and applied research initiatives.

“BCSE looks forward to working with the Committee on RD&D efforts and in the areas of electric and natural gas infrastructure, grid modernization, cyber security, energy efficiency and streamlining siting and permitting processes.”
