BCSE President Testifies On COVID-19 Impacts to Clean Energy Industry Before Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee
Clean Energy Job Losses Grow, but Industry Can Support Rapid Economic Recovery
Washington, DC – Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) President Lisa Jacobson will testify today before the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee at a hearing titled “Examining the Impacts of COVID-19 on the Energy Industry.” The hearing begins at 10 am ET and will be webcast on the Committee’s website.
Ms. Jacobson’s testimony will cover the critical role of the energy sector in providing essential services during the pandemic, the employment and economic challenges facing the sector today and the opportunities for the clean energy sectors to support American economic recovery.
Ms. Jacobson offered the follow statement:
“I commend Chairman Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Ranking Member Joe Manchin (D-WV) for convening today’s hearing. At a time when every sector of the economy is facing obstacles, the clean energy industry is especially strained, with over 620,000 jobs lost and many more at risk. With policy support, the industry can recover the jobs it has lost and return to its previous decade-long trend of economic and job growth. As nearly 70% of pre-pandemic clean energy jobs were in small businesses, federal policy supporting the recovery of clean energy sectors would benefit communities across the country.
“I am honored to represent the energy efficiency, natural gas and renewable energy sectors at today’s hearing. The essential workers in these sectors have made valued contributions in keeping America’s energy system running and I will recognize that today.”
Ms. Jacobson’s full testimony is available on the BCSE website.
