BCSE President to Testify Before House Committee on Small Business
Return on Investments in Energy Infrastructure: Jobs, Resilience, Continued Economic Growth
Washington, DC – Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) President Lisa Jacobson testifies today, by invitation of the House Small Business Committee Subcommittee on Contracting and Infrastructure, at a hearing titled Moving America’s Infrastructure Forward at 1:00 pm ET in Room 2360 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing will focus on the implications for small businesses as Congress explores ways to improve the nation’s infrastructure assets.
Ms. Jacobson issued the following statement head of her testimony:
“I applaud the House Small Business Committee and the Contracting and Infrastructure Subcommittee members for looking to the clean energy sector for opportunities to enhance American infrastructure and support small business growth. Investments and improvements in infrastructure have broad bipartisan support in every region of the country and for good reasons. Sound infrastructure makes our communities more resilient and strengthens our local economies – while also increasing America’s global economic competitiveness and national security. American businesses cannot succeed without reliable infrastructure.
“Today the clean energy sector employs over 3.2 million Americans, and 70 percent of those jobs are in small businesses. These are jobs that stay local and strengthen the regional economies. Today, communities across the United States are investing in a diversified, cleaner and more efficient energy portfolio and in improving their resilience against extreme weather events and natural disasters. The federal government has a role to play to support these efforts.
“My testimony will address the trajectory of the clean energy sector over the last 10 years, and the policy support needed to ensure that clean energy continues to expand. I will also speak to the need for infrastructure funding, and market structures that can facilitate the modernization and improved resilience of our infrastructure, including power grids and natural gas systems around the country.”
