US Clean Energy Industries Praise North American Cooperation on Energy & Climate
Washington, DC – The Business Council for Sustainable Energy’s President Lisa Jacobson offered the following statement on the energy & climate pledge made at the North American Leaders Summit:
“The announcement by the United States, Canada and Mexico is the type of regional leadership that will drive additional investment across borders into the sustainable energy transformation that is well underway in the United States, as the Council has documented for the past four years in the Sustainable Energy in America Factbook.
“The creation of the North American Climate, Energy and Environment Partnership demonstrates the region’s commitment to accelerate the deployment of clean energy and to act on climate change. The Council commends the inclusion of provisions in the Partnership to implement the Paris Agreement, and to work with each other and international partners on key issues of importance to the business community, such as a transparency framework, setting mid- and long-term mitigation targets and the use of carbon markets.
“The Partnership’s comprehensive action plan includes an increase in the use of clean energy sources for electricity generation, improvements in energy efficiency, increasing the reliability, resiliency and integration of our electricity grids, and a call for cleaner and more efficient transport. This cooperative effort can deepen channels of collaboration and open new markets for American clean energy technology solutions – bringing jobs and economic benefits to all three countries.”
