Update: Senate Passes Tax Extension Package, Action Moves to House

September 24, 2008- Earlier this week, the BCSE sent a letter to Senate Leadership urging quick passage of the Baucus-Grassley substitute amendment to H.R. 6049, the Renewable Energy and Jobs Creation Act of 2008.  The Baucus-Grassley substitute would extend critically-needed renewable energy and energy efficiency tax incentives, which expire at the end of 2008.  The BCSE applauds Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), as well as Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) and Ranking Republican Chuck Grassley (R-IA) for their bipartisan leadership on the measure.  The Senate overwhelmingly passed the measure on September 23 by a vote of 93-2.

The legislation now goes back to the House of Representatives where the outcome is less clear because the House may attempt to add provisions which are opposed by the White House.
