Undersecretary of Energy Kristina Johnson Announces Federal Hydropower Priorities at Voith Plant

On Wednesday, November 4, Department of Energy Undersecretary Johnson visited Voith's plant in York County, PA, to announce the expansion of federal funding for hydropower projects across the country.

Voith is the recipient of a $40 million contract from North Carolina's Alcoa, Inc., of which $13 million will be supplied through federal grants. This project will also create or save about 40 jobs through the renewal of production efforts.

Voith, according to Undersecretary Johnson, was chosen as the location of the announcement because of its history with in the energy field as the "heartland of hydro."

In addition to Voith, seven other projects around the country will receive federal funding, a $30.6 million investment in the nation's renewable energy industry. This is a significant contribution to an industry that provides 98,000 MW of power and supports 300,000 jobs, and shows the importance of hydropower towards stimulating our economy and protecting our environment.

For more information, please see the Department of Energy's full announcement.
