Clean Energy Businesses Commend Efforts of Senators Portman and Shaheen on Energy Efficiency Legislation
Business Council for Sustainable Energy Statement on Re-Introduction of Portman-Shaheen Energy Efficiency Bill
Washington, DC – The Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) released the following statement from BCSE President Lisa Jacobson in response to today’s re-introduction of the Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act by Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) and Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH):
“The Business Council for Sustainable Energy commends Senators Portman and Shaheen on their tireless work and strong bipartisan leadership in promoting commonsense energy efficiency legislation to improve our nation’s productivity. Their legislation, known as the Portman-Shaheen bill, encourages the use of energy efficiency technologies in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors of the economy and will cut costs, spur economic growth, and foster job creation.
“The U.S. economy is becoming more energy efficient than ever, according to the recently released 2017 Sustainable Energy in America Factbook. In fact, the energy productivity of the U.S economy increased by 10 percent since 2011. Energy efficiency provisions such as the ones in Portman-Shaheen will build upon these efficiency gains and will lock in greater energy and cost savings for decades to come.
“The Council is supportive of the bill’s broad focus on energy efficiency in residential and commercial buildings, commercial supply chains, and the federal government. BCSE commends Senator Portman and Senator Shaheen for their bipartisan leadership. With the re-introduction of this legislation, and their commitment to seeing it through, they are helping to set our country on the course towards greater energy efficiency and economic growth.”
