BCSE Sends Letter Urging Consideration of Benefits of North American Clean Energy in NAFTA Re-Negotiations
Washington, DC – The Business Council for Sustainable Energy sent a letter yesterday to the United States Trade Representative ahead of re-negotiations of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
The letter conveys support for the growing clean energy economy in North America and the critical support it provides to American manufacturing and jobs, as well as grid reliability and resiliency. The letter highlights the importance of the free movement of commercially available energy efficiency, natural gas, and renewable energy technologies and services as the parties re-negotiate NAFTA. BCSE President Lisa Jacobson commented:
“As the U.S. enters negotiations on NAFTA, the Council commends the emphasis on the value of the North American energy sector as a driver for economic prosperity and job creation in the region.
“Giving attention to items such as a zero tariff for goods produced in North America, promoting U.S. codes and standards, and updating language to reflect the growing impact of information technology on all sectors, will ensure that NAFTA supports the continued growth of clean energy and the benefits it provides to the U.S. economy.”
